Parents Rank Teen Driving #1 on List of Parental Worries

In a recent study done by Chevrolet, parents ranked driving without adult supervision #1 on the list of what parents of teens worry about most. Other options on the list included academic performance, drug and alcohol use, sexual activity and problems with friends.

Chevrolet introduced the Teen Driver Technology in 10 of the 2017 Chevrolet models to help ease parents worries about teenage driving. The ten 2017 models with available Teen Driver Technology include the Chevrolet Bolt EV, Camaro, Colorado, Cruze, Malibu, Silverado, Silverado HD, Suburban, Tahoe and Volt.

The technology includes a vehicle report card that shows parents how your child performed behind the wheel. This allows parents the opportunity to coach teens on what areas need improvement. The report shows the following:

  • Distance driven
  • Maximum speed reached
  • Overspeed warnings issued
  • Stability control events
  • Antilock braking events
  • Traction control activations
  • Wide-open throttle events
  • Forward Collision Alerts, if equipped
  • Forward Collision Braking events, if equipped
  • Tailgating Alerts, if equipped

  • The Teen Driver Technology restricts the maximum vehicle speed to 85 miles per hour. Parents can also set up custom audible and visual warnings that alert the teen if the vehicle is traveling over a pre-selected speed. To encourage teens to wear their seat belts when in the front seats, the radio/audio is muted until teens are buckled up. Parents can also set an audio limit so that teens are focusing on the road instead of being distracted by loud music.

The Siouxland Chamber of Commerce and City of Sioux City will be hosting a free "Watch Party" from 7:00 AM - 8:30 AM on August 16 at the Sioux City Convention Center. The 5,000 meters race will have two preliminary heats at 7:30 AM and 7:51 AM.

The race will be on NBCSN or LIVE at http://www.nbcolympics.com/video.

In an interview with The Sioux City Journal, Houlihan said, “The last two months I had that ‘I will be an Olympian’ written on my mirror so when I wake up every day I would see that and I would tell that to myself multiple times a day during the workouts,” Houlihan said. “By the time I did toe the line (at the U.S. Trials) it was in my head that I could do it and I didn’t really have any doubts or make the race more than it was.”

Now Houlihan changed the message on her mirror to, "I will win gold."

Shelby Houlihan...all of Siouxland is behind you! Be sure to cheer on the Sioux City Olympian Tuesday morning!
