From January 18, 2018 to February 2, 2018, Knoepfler Chevrolet will be
displaying on their show floor a 1966 Chevy Truck which was restored by WITCC’s
automotive technology students. Back in October, 17 students took this vehicle to
the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, which is
the largest automotive-based trade show in North America.
Accele Electronics, a
California-based mobile electronics manufacturer agreed to sponsor this
project, which allowed for the students to modernize the vehicle by adding
things like air conditioning, power brakes and computers to run all of the
truck’s systems. Every piece of sheet metal on the outside of the vehicle has
been customized. The vehicle is an example of the students’ work and ideas,
because all of the class helped decide what accessories to add. They chose a
1966 vehicle because that was the year Western Iowa Tech was founded; they
chose the green paint color because it’s the school color at WIT. At the SEMA
Show, the 1966 Chevy Truck placed in the Top 100 of the Battle of the Builders.
The community is invited to stop
by the Knoepfler Chevrolet dealership January 18, 2018 to February 2, 2018 to
view this vehicle. There will also be a video reel showing and highlighting the
vehicle’s restoration process.
