Winter Driving Tips

Winter in the Midwest usually means guaranteed snowfall. Although fresh fallen snow is beautiful, it also leads to dangerous driving conditions. Here are some tips to keep everyone safe on the road this winter.

Get Your Vehicle Regularly Serviced

• If your vehicle needs serviced, get it done now...especially before traveling. The Knoepfler Chevrolet Service Department can check your tire pressure, cooling system, battery and charging system and ensure that your windshield wipers are working correctly with the reservoir full.

Check Road Conditions

• If you do not have to leave, stay home. Wait till the roads are cleared and cleaned before venturing out.
• If you do have to leave, check local news stations, internet traffic sites and weather sites for road conditions. Look further ahead in traffic while driving to check the actions by other drivers to give yourself more reaction time.

Be Prepared

• Keep your gas tank close to full.
• Make sure to have basic equipment in your vehicle in case you get caught in a snowstorm. Pack an ice scraper, shovel, blankets, winter clothes, boots, cell phone car charger, food and water. Have a bright piece of clothing or material you can tie to your antenna so that your vehicle is easier to spot in the snow. 
• Run your heater to stay warm, but make sure exhaust pipe is clear of snow. A blocked exhaust could cause deadly carbon dioxide poisoning.  

Drive Cautiously

• Before you leave, clear off your vehicle completely of ice and snow to avoid obstructed vision.
• Drive slowly. Remember the posted speed limited is for dry pavement.
• Be alert. Even if you have plenty of winter driving experience, the drivers around you may not.
• Leave yourself plenty of room for stopping.
• Do not use your cruise control during wet, snowy or icy road conditions.
• Be extra cautious on bridges and exit ramps.

Driving Safety Tips for Deer Season

Deer season has arrived. The Knoepfler Chevrolet Collision Center has seen many damaged vehicles come in due to deer collisions. Here are a few statics and driving safety tips to help avoid an accident during deer season:

Statistics:

• Dawn and dusk are the times you are most likely to encounter deer along the roadside, however, you should still be watchful at all times.
• Deer breeding season runs from October - January. During this time deer are most active and likely to be on the move, causing this to be the peak season for deer collisions.
• Deer are most frequently found on the outskirts of town in highly wooded areas, but have been known to be in suburban areas as well.  
• Deer almost never travel alone. If you see one, there is probably one or more nearby.

Driving Safety Tips:

1. Slow down. If you are driving in a heavily wooded area or one with deer crossing signs, slow down and observe the speed limit. You will have more time to spot a deer and brake if you going at a slower speed.

2. Wear your seatbelt. You should always be wearing your seatbelt when you are in a moving vehicle. One statistic from Driving Ambition says, "In 60% of the accidents involving human fatalities with animal-vehicle collisions, the fatality was caused not by the collision with the deer, but failure to wear a safety belt."

3. Be on the lookout. If you see glowing eyes or a deer silhouette on the roadside, slow down, check your surroundings and proceed with caution.

4. Use your high beams. Be sure to have your high beams on whenever there isn't oncoming traffic. This will help you better spot a deer and also may scare off the deer from approaching.

5. Do not swerve. Its the driver's instinct to swerve to miss the oncoming deer, but swerving can actual increase the likelihood of vehicle damage and injuries. Swerving increase your risk of hitting another vehicle or losing control of your vehicle.

6. Take care of your vehicle. Ensuring that your brakes and tires are in good shape can help protect you if you need to react in an instant. The Knoepfler Chevrolet Service Department can handle your vehicle needs.

If you do get into a collision, be sure to check for injuries and call 911 if needed. Also report the accident to your insurance company. If your vehicle is damaged, the Knoepfler Chevrolet Collision Center is here to work with your insurance company and get your vehicle repaired as quickly as possible.

What to do after a car accident?

We all hope that it won't happen - the unfortunate moment when you back into a vehicle or when an intersecting vehicle runs a red light right into your prized vehicle. For many, some sort of fender bender will happen at least once. The Knoepfler Chevrolet Collision Center offers some tips on what to do if you get in a car accident.

1. Remain calm. Getting in an accident no matter how big or small can be a scary situation. Take a deep breath and follow the rest of these steps to get everything handled properly.

2. Be safe. Depending on where the accident happened, it may be unsafe for you to be in or near your vehicle. If it was a minor accident, you should be able to move your vehicle off the side of the road. If you are unable to move your vehicle, leave your vehicle and go to a safe spot off the road. Check for injuries for your passengers, the passengers of the other involved vehicle(s) and yourself. If there are serious injuries, call 911.

3. Call police. After explaining the accident to the police, they may or may not choose to send someone over. It is always wise to call so they are aware of the situation and can come to direct traffic if your vehicles are blocking the road. If they do not come, you may be asked to file a police report regarding the accident.

4. Exchange Info. Be sure to get the following information from the involved parties: Name, Address, Phone, Vehicle's Make, Model & Year, License Plate #, Insurance Company, Insurance Policy Number. Do not agree if the other party suggests to keep this accident from the insurance companies. It is better to get the insurance companies involved so that the situation and damages are handled properly. Also, your Social Security Number is not needed to file an insurance claim, so if you are asked to provide that politely tell them it is unnecessary.

5. Document the accident. Take lots of pictures of the accident and the damage. This will help if any issues arise. Also take notes of the location, date and time of accident. If there are witnesses, be sure to collect their contact information.

6. Call Insurance Company. Your insurance company will inform you on what will be covered and the steps moving forward. Some insurance companies may want you to visit their drive-in claims center before having your car repaired. You can do this, or you may leave your car at the Knoepfler Chevrolet Collision Center and ask that the insurance company inspect the car there.

7. Take a Sigh of Relief. At Knoepfler Chevrolet, the body shop staff will work with your insurance company and take care of your vehicle needs. You are welcome to take advantage of the free to and from shuttle service. If available, they will even provide a loaner vehicle to use until your vehicle is fixed up.

Flash Back to the Days of the Drive-In

Knoepfler Chevrolet had their 1st Annual Drive-In Movie on Saturday, September 26th. The show was free with the donation of a canned food item to the Food Bank of Siouxland. A variety of vehicles came rolling into the lot - classic cars, family-filled SUVs and trucks with young couples. The weather was perfect at sunset - warm enough to sit outside, but a chill in the air sufficed with comfy sweatshirts and blankets.

People of all ages came to watch the 1973 iconic movie, "American Graffiti," which features a wide variety of classic cars not unlike many of the vehicles in attendance. For the younger generation, this was their first drive-in movie experience. For many others, this event stirred up a nostalgia for the good 'ole days. Boy Scouts in uniform sold glass bottles of Coke, popcorn and candy, couples arrived in poodle skirts and fedoras, and 50s music filled the air as the screen lit up to start the show.

Knoepfler Chevrolet Hits Grand Slam for Morningside Little League

Knoepfler Chevrolet wraps up 2015 baseball season partnership with Morningside Little League

 

Sioux City, July 1, 2015 – Knoepfler Chevrolet, one of 13 Chevrolet dealers from the Sioux City area that partnered with local youth baseball leagues for the 2015 baseball program, has concluded a successful season with Morningside Little League. Knoepfler Chevrolet provided Morningside Little League with new equipment, a monetary contribution and an opportunity for community members to raise funds for the league via a Test Drive fundraiser.

“We’re glad we were able to extend Chevrolet’s commitment to spreading play and the possibilities it opens to the members of our community,” said Heidi Connelly, Marketing Associate for Knoepfler Chevrolet.

Knoepfler Chevrolet partnered with the Morningside Little League because of the league’s proximity to the dealership. Equipment donated by Knoepfler Chevrolet included items such as bags, batting tees, catcher’s gear, water bottles and Chevrolet Youth Baseball T-shirts.

“We truly enjoyed being involved with Morningside Little League this year,” said Connelly. “This partnership gave us the opportunity to support the love of the game and we are thrilled to have achieved such positive results for the community." 

In 2015, nearly 1,500 Chevrolet dealers participated in Chevy Youth Baseball. Since the program began in 2006, Chevrolet has made a positive impact on more than 3.6 million children by bringing a unique experience to their community.

Knoepfler Chevrolet goes to bat for Morningside Little League

Knoepfler Chevrolet is partnering with the Morningside Little League.  Knoepfler Chevrolet has joined forces with the national Chevrolet Youth Baseball program to provide new equipment, a monetary contribution, and an opportunity for community members to earn additional donations for their league via a Test Drive fundraiser.
 

“Playing the game of baseball helps kids develop skills like leadership, cooperation and sportsmanship while bringing families and communities together to show their support. Knoepfler Chevrolet and Chevrolet Youth Baseball are proud to participate in a sport that brings so many smiles to kids and families,” said Heidi Connelly, Marketing Associate for Knoepfler Chevrolet. “Chevrolet believes that in play, there are possibilities and supports the spirit of teamwork that baseball instills in its players.”

2015 marks Chevrolet’s Youth Baseball program’s tenth year, and since its introduction has helped aid local teams, benefiting more than 3.5 million young people in communities where Chevrolet’s customers live, work and play. In 2014, more than 1,600 Chevrolet dealers participated across the country.

Knoepfler Chevrolet presented the Morningside Little League with an equipment kit that includes useful items such as bags, batting tees, catcher’s gear, water bottles and Chevrolet Youth Baseball T-shirts.

In addition, Knoepfler Chevrolet presented a check representing a one-time monetary contribution to Morningside Little League. Sponsored leagues across the country will have the chance to earn additional funds as community members take test drives at their partnering dealership to help support the league.

Our Review of the Chevy Trax

We asked some of our staff at Knoepfler Chevrolet their thoughts on the 2015 Chevy Trax.

Favorite Features:
We like the fuel economy and price of the Chevy Trax. All-wheel drive is available in every style is a great feature. It is the perfect vehicle for in-town commuting, and its easy to fit into parking spots. Even though it is a small SUV, there are 16 storage compartments and the seats lay flat so you are able to haul and store plenty. It is at the perfect height to get in and out of easily. The Trax also has a great technology package available.

If we could, we could change/fix:
At first we thought that we would like to see it bigger, but then we would be losing what we are trying to gain with this vehicle. The Chevy Trax serves as our small SUV, so that makes its size ideal. If possible, we would add more leg room in the second row or add a sliding seat.

A bittersweet good-bye to our longtime friend and employee

Gordon Pynn, the General Manager of Knoepfler Chevrolet, finished his last day of work...ever. We congratulate him on his retirement! Gordon has worked for Knoepfler Chevrolet for 29 years. He started out in the Service Department, managed it, and then moved up to lead the dealership as General Manager. He did a fantastic job, and we were honored to have him as part of our team.

It was bittersweet to say good-bye to a friend and great employee. He promises to stop by and visit, and we know that he will. This summer he plans to do some traveling to visit family and new places. He looks forward to continue to fix up his '56 hot rod and to possibly take some classes at WITCC.

Can a burrito sell a vehicle?

In January, a customer from Sioux Falls came into Knoepfler Chevrolet interested in the 2015 Chevy Colorado. He said we were one of the first dealers in the area to have this new truck. While he was there Ben Knoepfler had picked up a burrito from La Juanita's.

Ben, Jim Busker (salesmen) and the customer were working on the truck deal. The customer couldn't make up his mind on whether or not to purchase it. He decided he was hungry, so he was going to leave and think about it some more. Ben intervened and asked him if he had ever had an amazing La Juanita's burrito. The customer had not, but he claimed his favorite burrito restaurant in Sioux Falls is probably better. Ben replied, "I doubt it."

The customer asked Ben if he could somehow sweeten the deal on the Chevy Colorado. Ben said, "You are getting a great deal on this new truck. I cannot go any lower in price, but I can throw in this delicious burrito." The customer thought about it and replied, "OK," and they shook hands.

After finishing the paperwork, the customer was ready to head back to Sioux Falls in his new Chevy Colorado. But first, he went into Ben's office and grabbed the burrito off of Ben's desk.

So can a burrito sell a vehicle? We say yes.

Review of the 2015 Chevy Colorado

What's new for 2015?
Everything! The last model of the Colorado came out in 2012. The 2015 Colorado has been completely redesigned and updated with the latest technology.

Favorite Features:
We love the size. The Colorado gives customers a smaller option for a truck without sacrificing the cabin space. The seating capacity is ideal. This truck is a refined ride that oozes truck capability. It has good power and can tow up to 7,000 lbs.. Each gear is in the right torque range.

If we could, we could change/fix:
We would have liked the diesel to come out in the first year instead of waiting until the second. We wouldn't change a thing on the Colorado, though.

What is the difference between a Chevrolet LS, LT and LTZ?

Chevrolet uses LS, LT and LTZ to distinguish different trim types. For example, you might be interested in a 2015 Chevy Impala LT. The LT part of the title lets the customer know what type of trim package comes with the vehicle.

The most basic features come with the LS trim level. It is the standard package. The LS trim level is very nice, but you do not get all the extra bells and whistles. It is also the least expensive. LT has all the same features of the LS or upgrades of the LS plus additional features. For example, a LS most likely has cloth seats where as a LT may have leather seats. Upgrades in the trim package can be both interior and exterior, such as more technology on the inside and painted-aluminum wheels on the outside. LTZ has all the LT features plus additional ones. Some of the extra features might be lower body side chrome moldings, heated front seats, rear view mirror camera and push button start. LTZ is the high end trim level and the most expensive.
