    Winter Driving Safety Tips

Winter in the Midwest usually means guaranteed snowfall. Although fresh fallen snow is beautiful, it also leads to dangerous driving conditions. Here are some tips to keep everyone safe on the road this winter.

    Get Your Vehicle Regularly Serviced
    • If your vehicle needs serviced, get it done now...especially before traveling. The Knoepfler Chevrolet Service Department can check your tire pressure, cooling system, battery and charging system and ensure that your windshield wipers are working correctly with the reservoir full.

    Check Road Conditions
    • If you do not have to leave, stay home. Wait till the roads are cleared and cleaned before venturing out.
    • If you do have to leave, check local news stations, internet traffic sites and weather sites for road conditions. Look further ahead in traffic while driving to check the actions by other drivers to give yourself more reaction time.
    Be Prepared
    • Keep your gas tank close to full.
    • Make sure to have basic equipment in your vehicle in case you get caught in a snowstorm. Pack an ice scraper, shovel, blankets, winter clothes, boots, cell phone car charger, food and water. Have a bright piece of clothing or material you can tie to your antenna so that your vehicle is easier to spot in the snow.
    • Run your heater to stay warm, but make sure exhaust pipe is clear of snow. A blocked exhaust could cause deadly carbon dioxide poisoning.
    Drive Cautiously
    • Before you leave, clear off your vehicle completely of ice and snow to avoid obstructed vision.
    • Drive slowly. Remember the posted speed limited is for dry pavement.
    • Be alert. Even if you have plenty of winter driving experience, the drivers around you may not.
    • Leave yourself plenty of room for stopping.
    • Do not use your cruise control during wet, snowy or icy road conditions.
    • Be extra cautious on bridges and exit ramps.

For more details, visit www.irs.gov. 1For vehicles that qualify as passenger automobiles under the Internal Revenue Code, there is a $11,160 per-vehicle depreciation deduction cap or $11,560 for certain SUVs, trucks, and vans placed in service during 2016. 2For vehicles that qualify as sport utility vehicles, including certain trucks and vans, under the Internal Revenue Code, the maximum amount that may be expensed is $25,000 of the total purchase price. The $25,000 expense cap contributes to the $500,000 dollar limit and $2,010,000 investment limit under Section 179. 3The tax incentives are available for depreciable tangible property that is acquired by purchase for use in the active conduct of a trade or business. Additional limitation based on purchases. For every dollar spent on Section 179 property in excess of the overall limit of $2,010,000, the $500,000 expense-tax deduction decreases by a dollar. Certain vehicles, models, and restrictions apply. Consult your tax professional for details.

Knoepfler Chevrolet Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month

For Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Chevrolet has teamed up with the American Cancer Society to support the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign. Knoepfler Chevrolet planned numerous activities to support this campaign both on a national and a local level.

Chevrolet is donating $5 to the American Cancer Society each time the hashtag #IDriveFor is used on Twitter and Instagram. Knoepfler Chevrolet encouraged customers to take a picture by their photo area and share who they drive for on their social media sites.
Locally, Knoepfler Chevrolet is donating $1 to Susan G. Komen Siouxland for every new “Like” the Knoepfler Chevrolet Facebook Page gets in October. To get the whole team involved, the dealership had a Pink Out Day on October 21, where all staff members wore pink #IDriveFor t-shirts. Employees could also wear jeans that day for a $5 donation in support of the Susan G. Komen Siouxland organization.

"It was really neat having a 90 person staff dressed in pink t-shirts. We were flooded in pink that day with employees moving about their daily routines," says Heidi Connelly, Marketing Director for Knoepfler Chevrolet. "It has been fun to join together with our employees to support this cause. We hope our efforts help raise awareness about this disease."

    Easy Trunk or Treat Ideas

A Trunk-or-Treat event is a new take on Halloween trick-or-treating. At a trunk-or-treat event, which usually takes place in a parking lot,  you walk car to car to trick-or-treat instead of visiting house to house. The event is great for little children, because there is less walking and its a safer environment. Participants hand out the candy from the trunk of their vehicles. Some people go all out for this event by decorating their vehicle to match a different theme, movie or event. We complied some easy and fairly inexpensive ways to dress up your vehicle for a Trunk-or-Treat event.

    1. Big Mouth
Cut teeth out of construction paper and a large tongue out of a plastic table cloth to make the mouth. Then fill the mouth up with candy!

    2. I Spy
Your vehicle can become an interactive game by requiring the children to at least find one "I Spy" item before they get a piece of candy.

    3. Andy's Room from Toy Story
If you have a child that's a Toy Story fan, this idea is easy to put together. Create a small bed and fill it with all the characters from Toy Story to create "Andy's Room".

    4. Spiders
Create an easy spider's web by visiting a Halloween store for fake spider's webs and large spiders. The children will be nervous to reach in for candy!

    5. Drive-In
Paint a large piece of cardboard to look like your favorite drive-thru restaurant.

    6. Sports' Tailgate
Gather all of your tailgating items and sports memorabilia to easily create a sports themed vehicle.

    7. Beehive
With the help of a yellow tarp or plastic tablecloth, you can transform your vehicle into a beehive. Participants can dress up at the bumble bees to add to the theme.

    8. Zoo
With the help of your child's stuffed animal collection, you can create an adorable zoo!

    9. Camp Site
Gather up your camping equipment and turn your vehicle into a camp site!

    10. Cookie Monster
Use a blue tablecloth and cardboard cookies to transform your vehicle into the Cookie Monster. Give out small packages of cookies instead of candy.

Drive-In Movie Night in Downtown Sioux City

Knoepfler Chevrolet hosted their 2nd Annual Drive-In Movie on Saturday, October 8. It turned out to be a perfect autumn day with highs in the low 70's and a fall chill in the air in the evening.

The screen started being set up around 12:30 PM. Knoepfler Chevrolet wants to thank Kevin O'Dell Electric for the use of their boom truck for this event, which allowed the screen to be put higher into the air.

Guests started claiming front row spots around 6:00 PM and the rest of the crowd rolled in soon after driving classic cars, Suburbans full of children and pick-ups with truck beds lined with pillows and blankets. When guests strolled to the front of the lot near the screen, they could purchase popcorn, candy and glass bottles of pop from Boy Scouts Troop #221.

The movie, Talladega Nights, begun around 7:30 PM. The movie could be heard by tuning in to 94.1 or by the loud speakers that were placed in front of the screen for outdoor viewers.

Cans of food were collected as admission to the movie with all donations going to the Food Bank of Siouxland. This unique event is something new to Sioux City, and Knoepfler Chevrolet looks forward to providing this community event for years to come.

Viewers can choose to watch from their vehicles or sit outdoors. If choosing to watch outdoors, guests will need to provide their own chairs. New Owners' Clinic - "What You 'Auto' Know"

A New Owners' Clinic was held on September 29 at Knoepfler Chevrolet. Customers who purchased a new Chevrolet within the last 6 months were invited to the event to learn the "ins and outs" of their new vehicle and their dealership.

When the guests arrived, they got their vehicles washed, signed up for door prizes, grabbed a free gift and enjoyed appetizers.

Heidi Connelly, Marketing Director for Knoepfler Chevrolet, welcomed the group and shared the history of the family-owned dealership. Rod Hamm, the Service Manager, discussed what to expect during a service visit, essential maintenance procedures and service warranties. Lastly, the Collision Center Manager, Doug Walker, spoke about the services the body shop offers, such as rock chip repairs, clear film paint protection and spray-in bed liners. Walker noted that the Collision Center works seamlessly with the insurance companies to make the process easy for the customer.

The entire group went on a tour of the dealership to see the Parts Department, the Service Department shop and the Collision Center shop. During this time, more details were noted about the dealership and guests were able to ask additional questions.

After the tour, Heidi Connelly briefly discussed the Sales Department and the advanced technology in the new Chevrolets. Door prizes were given out to three lucky winners. Guests with specific questions were paired up with sales associates who met them at their vehicles to answer questions such as, how to pair Bluetooth, how to use the MyChevrolet app and clarifications of any components of the vehicle.

Knoepfler Chevrolet plans to do this event at least two times a year. Connelly said, "This event is a great opportunity to review information and answer questions all at once. However, we want our customers to know that our relationship with them does not stop once they drive off with their new vehicle. We see it as just the beginning. So if questions come up about your vehicle, feel free to come see us anytime. We are here to serve our customers."

    Employees Attend Boot Camp

Two of Knoepfler Chevrolet's employees, Renette Oehlerking and Jessica Peterson, attended a
Service BDC Boot Camp in Charlotte, NC. The BDC Boot Camp is a 5-day workshop that provides in-depth training on call theory and techniques coupled with live phone time.

Within the last year, Knoepfler Chevrolet has started a Business Development Center as a way to better reach and stay in communication with customers. Among other things, the BDC follows up with customers about their experience, reaches out to customers about potential offers and schedules service appointments.

While at training, the employees learned the expectations of a Business Development Representative, the 18 most common services scheduled, how to leave effective messages, how to prioritize calls, the basic structure of outbound and inbound calls and much more!

The dealership was happy to provide this learning opportunity to Renette and Jessica. The training they received will benefit their customers' experience and the communication they receive from Knoepfler Chevrolet.

The 2017 Chevy Bolt Offers an EPA-estimated 238 Miles

Electric cars have rapidly grown popular over the last few years. In 2015, 1 in every 150 cars sold in the U.S. had a plug and a battery, but this number continues to increase as manufacturers come out with most efficient electric cars and as consumers desire products with the latest technology

Both General Motors and Tesla announced they would be releasing new models that would have 200 miles or more of range, but General Motors beat Tesla to the market. Chevrolet announced the release of the first electric car rated to provide 238 miles on a single charge - the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt. Parents Rank Teen Driving #1 on List of Parental Worries

In a recent study done by Chevrolet, parents ranked driving without adult supervision #1 on the list of what parents of teens worry about most. Other options on the list included academic performance, drug and alcohol use, sexual activity and problems with friends.

Chevrolet introduced the Teen Driver Technology in 10 of the 2017 Chevrolet models to help ease parents worries about teenage driving. The ten 2017 models with available Teen Driver Technology include the Chevrolet Bolt EV, Camaro, Colorado, Cruze, Malibu, Silverado, Silverado HD, Suburban, Tahoe and Volt.

    Chevy Malibu

The technology includes a vehicle report card that shows parents how your child performed behind the wheel. This allows parents the opportunity to coach teens on what areas need improvement. The report shows the following:

  • Distance driven
  • Maximum speed reached
  • Overspeed warnings issued
  • Stability control events
  • Antilock braking events
  • Traction control activations
  • Wide-open throttle events
  • Forward Collision Alerts, if equipped
  • Forward Collision Braking events, if equipped
  • Tailgating Alerts, if equipped

  • The Teen Driver Technology restricts the maximum vehicle speed to 85 miles per hour. Parents can also set up custom audible and visual warnings that alert the teen if the vehicle is traveling over a pre-selected speed. To encourage teens to wear their seat belts when in the front seats, the radio/audio is muted until teens are buckled up. Parents can also set an audio limit so that teens are focusing on the road instead of being distracted by loud music.

For more info on Teen Driver Technology, visit http://www.chevrolet.com/teen-driver-technology.html.

When Does Sioux City's Shelby Houlihan Run in the Olympics?

Sioux City, IA is honored to have a local runner featured in the 2016 Summer Olympics. Shelby Houlihan, a state track and Drake Relays champion at Sioux City East and an Arizona State All-American, will be making her Olympic debut on Tuesday, August 16 in Rio. The Siouxland Chamber of Commerce and City of Sioux City will be hosting a free "Watch Party" from 7:00 AM - 8:30 AM on August 16 at the Sioux City Convention Center. The 5,000 meters race will have two preliminary heats at 7:30 AM and 7:51 AM.

The race will be on NBCSN or LIVE at http://www.nbcolympics.com/video.

In an interview with The Sioux City Journal, Houlihan said, “The last two months I had that ‘I will be an Olympian’ written on my mirror so when I wake up every day I would see that and I would tell that to myself multiple times a day during the workouts,” Houlihan said. “By the time I did toe the line (at the U.S. Trials) it was in my head that I could do it and I didn’t really have any doubts or make the race more than it was.”

Now Houlihan changed the message on her mirror to, "I will win gold."

Shelby Houlihan...all of Siouxland is behind you! Be sure to cheer on the Sioux City Olympian Tuesday morning!

Owner of 1964 Chevelle SS Receives a Big Surprise

At the Knoepfler Chevrolet Car Show, there is no judging. No trophies or awards are given out based on different vehicle categories. However, there is one honor given. A plaque is presented to one lucky person whose vehicle is the "Knoepfler Pick."

At least one member of the Knoepfler family along with some Car Show committee members pick out one vehicle that stood out to them at the Car Show.

At this year's Car Show on June 25, Joe and Carol Huff received the honor of the 2016 Knoepfler Pick for their 1964 Chevrolet Chevelle SS. Their vehicle was purchased at Miller Kidder now called Knoepfler Chevrolet! However, this wasn't the only surprise Joe received that day.

The '64 Chevelle SS was in the process of getting rebuilt when Joe found out he had Stage 4 Cancer. His friends who were working on restoring the vehicle made it a priority to have it finished by the time of the Knoepfler Chevrolet Car Show. Joe came to the show to check out all of the other show cars. While he was walking about the lot viewing them, he noticed his finished Chevelle lined up with all of the other beautiful show cars. Let's just say, he was very surprised and touched!

Congratulations to our winner of the 2016 Knoepfler Pick! Joe's vehicle will be featured on our dash plaques for 2017.
